The Reality
[Be Real] 2 You! identifies and supplies what’s missing in Public Education, freeing up educators to do what they do best, TEACH! It’s not the kids, and it’s not the teachers, and it’s not the parents. The root of the problem is that this generation of kids’ outer, or social selves, have changed faster than their inner, or character selves, and our education system was designed for scaffolded knowledge-building, not real-time “selves” alignment.
Let Students Lead
Social Emotional School Programs are effective with elementary school students but how do you reach the high schoolers? Give them a safe environment to [Be Real], [Be Heard] and [Be Seen]. Let them talk about their needs and motivations: allow them to discuss how they have developed an identity and what their sense of agency is, Give them a platform to share how they want to be recognized and respected by their peers, Let them define [Their Story]. Then create a safe space for them to talk to others who are seeking role models. Empower them to Empower others to be happy!
[Be Real] 2 You!
Using evidence-based research, [Be Real] 2 You! prepares high school student leaders to tell “their” story in upper elementary classrooms within their own school district. [Be Real] 2 You! provides all the training and tools for high school student leaders to make three visits to classes during the academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring). [Be Real] 2 You! training prepares student leaders to engage with younger children, conduct empowering activities and talk about the importance of managing stress, exploring passions, and seeking opportunities to contribute to the local community.
Each visit consists of a 2-3 hour leadership training program for high schoolers that emphasizes life skills and “real life” choices and decisions. Each training session will conclude with our student leaders conducting a 30-45 min lesson in an elementary classroom to do an activity, tell a personal story and share information relevant to the workshop topic.
Session 1 - Self-Awareness/Self-Management – Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Session 2 - Social Awareness/Interpersonal Skills - Inclusivity (Inclusion + Diversity) is taking diversity and inclusion and turning this into action by creating a school environment of engagement, respect and connection - where ideas, backgrounds and perspectives are tied together in a caring environment.
Session 3 - Responsible Citizenship - Health and Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness; it is a dynamic process of change and growth. Wellness also encompasses how people feel about various aspects of their lives and the actions taken for a successful existence.
