The founders at [Be Real] 2 You! have 80+ years of Coaching experience
It is safe to say that there is no better “classroom environment” than having children participate in sports for teaching and learning social and emotional skills. With 80+ years of coaching sports, ranging from 3-year old's to Olympians, National Team players and professional athletes, the founders of [Be Real] 2 You! know that winning is simply a bi-product of teaching athletes about the core social emotional competencies inherit in them.
We have all seen those players with a bad temper, no empathy for others, the lousy teammate, the one that constantly breaks team rules and thinks they can do wrong. No one wants a player like this on their team. Yet we have seen way too many coaches and programs who don’t value social emotional learning and/or tolerate parents whose behaviors mirror those of the traits of the children described above.
Our Interactive Teambuilding Activities and classroom sessions Break SEL competencies down for coaches and athletes
[Self Awareness] Part of the growing up process is identifying our own personal strengths and weaknesses. [Be Real] 2 You! helps develop: Identifying emotions, Self confidence, Ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses.
[Self Management] Sports have the ability to simulate stress and anxiety. This is the perfect environment to teach kids how to self-regulate. This practice helps them better cope with the real life triggers. [Be Real] 2 You! helps develop: Impulse control, Stress management, Self-discipline, Self-motivation, Goal-setting, Organizational skills
[Social Awareness] Being part of a sports team fulfills our most basic need to belong. It often forces children to work with others who don’t think like them or look like them, but because of the shared experience develops bonds that are hard to reproduce in other youth settings. [Be Real] 2 You! helps develop: Perspective-taking, Empathy, Appreciating diversity, Respect for others
[Relationship Skills] Participating in sports allows children to not only work on relationships with multiple other children in their age group, but hopefully with a caring adult (their coach) as well. It moves children from a self-centered construct to one of helping others reach their goals as well. [Be Real] 2 You! helps develop: Communication, Social engagement, Relationship-building, Teamwork
[Responsible Decision Making] Under the right coach and right conditions, there is no better setting to try out right from wrong than under the tutelage of a caring coach and with teammates who are learning these lessons as well. [Be Real] 2 You! helps develop: Identifying problems, Analyzing situations, Solving problems, Evaluating, Reflecting, Ethical responsibility
